Andy Robertson

Head Coach & Founder

Andy has been training in martial arts for over 14 years and coaching for approximately 12 years.

He holds a 10th Degree in Muay Thai, the equivalent of a 10th Degree black belt level, with the title of Arjan Yai, as well as a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Anderson Bushi Kai Karate, with the title of Sensei.

Andy has had 41 fights, including 26 in Thailand, and is a former Queensland State Champion. He spent almost three years living in Thailand, training and fighting professionally. During this time, he was sponsored by a Thai gym and competed at a high level, including fighting live on television in Thailand.

His coaching journey began by running classes for his own instructor before he founded Spinning Dragon Fight Club seven years ago.

Andy is passionate about passing on the knowledge and experience he has gained through martial arts and helping every student improve, regardless of their experience or ability. His coaching goes beyond simply developing martial arts skills. He believes martial arts can build confidence, discipline, resilience and personal growth that carries over into everyday life.

His goal is to create a welcoming and supportive environment where everyone can feel part of the Spinning Dragon family, challenge themselves, develop their skills and become better versions of themselves both inside and outside the gym.

Jordan Allan

Muay Thai Coach

Jordan has been training in martial arts for over seven years, with experience in both boxing and K1-style Muay Thai. His training has developed a strong focus on striking and technical stand-up skills.

He holds a 1st Degree Black in Muay Thai, the equivalent of a 1st Degree Black Belt, and holds the title of Kru.

For Jordan, one of the most rewarding parts of coaching is helping students understand and apply what they are learning.

"I love coaching because it gives me the opportunity to teach the way I have always wanted to be taught. Seeing students persist, understand and apply what you teach is one of the most satisfying feelings you can have as a coach. That's what brings me back every time."

Jordan brings an easy-going, technical and understanding approach to his coaching. He recognises that every student learns differently and believes coaching should adapt to the individual rather than expecting everyone to learn in exactly the same way.

"One size doesn't fit all. Sometimes different techniques and different approaches work better for different people."

Jordan's goal is to help each student find what works for them, develop their skills and confidence, and enjoy progressing in their martial arts journey as part of the Spinning Dragon family.

Ashton Large

Muay Thai Coach

Ashton is an amateur Muay Thai fighter with multiple fights under his belt and has been training with Spinning Dragon Fight Club for several years. As an active fighter, he continues to develop his own skills while passing on what he has learned to others.

He holds a 1st Degree Black in Muay Thai, the equivalent of a 1st Degree Black Belt, and holds the title of Kru.

For Ashton, coaching is one of the most rewarding parts of martial arts.

"I get an enjoyment out of coaching even more than fighting. Being able to find the right cues and see someone start to string techniques together is incredibly rewarding. I believe every person is capable of learning this sport, no matter their athletic background."

Ashton is always happy to help students with technique, sparring and developing their skills, and particularly enjoys working with beginners and watching their confidence grow as they progress.

His patient and encouraging approach reflects what Spinning Dragon is all about: creating a welcoming and supportive environment where everyone has the opportunity to learn, improve and become part of the Spinning Dragon family.
